EDX880 XRF spectrometer

EDX880 XRF spectrometer for jewellery analysis

An economical EDXRF caratage analyser with a proportional counter and top-mounted measuring unit — convenient, non-destructive testing of rings, coins and irregularly shaped jewellery. Ideal for gold buyers and pawnshops.

EDX880 is aimed at businesses that want to start verifying caratage in-house without a heavy investment. This compact EDXRF spectrometer handles the daily traffic of a gold buyer or pawnshop: the customer hands over an item and moments later you know its true fineness and alloy composition — no scratching, filing or acids.

A well-thought-out design

The unusual layout of the EDX880 — radiation source and detector mounted in the upper housing — makes it easy to work with samples that trouble other instruments: curved rings, convex pendants or coins. The item simply rests under the measuring unit without precise positioning.

Economical operation

At its heart is a proportional counter — cheaper to buy and run than semiconductor detectors, and fully sufficient for the typical gold and silver alloys seen in the jewellery trade. As a result the EDX880 pays for itself quickly even at a moderate number of valuations per day.

XRF measurement is entirely non-destructive, so tested items return to the customer intact. If you also need to resolve harder alloys (white gold, dental alloys), have a look at the EDX3000 and EDX3000 PLUS — and ask about selection and pricing via the contact form.
