PLRM-4 circle polarimeter

PLRM-4 circle polarimeter with sodium lamp

The manual PLRM-4 circle (half-shadow) polarimeter measures the rotation angle of the plane of polarised light precisely — a 589.44 nm monochromatic sodium lamp, a ±180° range, a 0.05° vernier reading and x4 magnification. Supplied with 100 and 200 mm tubes.

The PLRM-4 circle (disc) polarimeter is a classic, manually operated half-shadow instrument for the precise measurement of the rotation angle of the plane of polarised light. By setting the fields of view to equal brightness, it determines optical rotation and, from it, the concentration and purity of optically active substances.

A simple principle, a reliable result

A beam from the 589.44 nm monochromatic sodium lamp passes through the polariser and the sample; the measurement consists of bringing the field of view to uniform brightness and reading the angle. A ±180° range, a 1° dial scale and a vernier with 0.05° resolution give accuracy sufficient for routine analysis, while the x4 eyepiece magnification makes precise setting easier.

Where it fits

The PLRM-4 is used in pharmacy, the chemical and food industries, the sugar industry and in teaching — wherever the content of substances such as sugar solutions, turpentine oil or camphor must be determined. It ships with 100 and 200 mm polarimeter tubes. When you need an automatic readout, see the PLRS-200 semi-automatic polarimeter or the fully automatic series P polarimeters.
